Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is one of the services available at ProClinix in our Pleasantville, Armonk, and Ardsley locations. Our physical therapists evaluate the strength, balance, range of motion, coordination, endurance, and posture of each patient at the initial visit. They will then develop an individualized treatment plan and provide an accurate prognosis. The treatment plan is specific to correcting pertinent physical findings. Each patient’s individual treatment plan is geared toward reaching specific rehabilitation goals that are set by the therapist and the patient together as a team.
There are many aspects to the range of physical therapy that one can pursue. Massage is part of the PT process, as is manual therapy using tools or hands on the soft tissue. Exercise and movement therapy supervised and guided by a physical therapist can be utilized to decrease chronic pain, with a number of different methods and exercises used. In addition, cold laser therapy may be used to reduce inflammation and pain as well as aid in the release of endorphins. Micro current stimulation may be used to decrease pain by sending out alpha waves to the brain, increasing dopamine and serotonin, reducing chronic pain.
Physical therapy is one of the best options for a patient to manage chronic pain. Physical therapy can make a real and tangible difference in chronic pain from neuropathic, muscular, and skeletal issues. It is an effective pain management tool for osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic headaches, sciatica, low back or neck pain, whiplash, spinal stenosis, bursitis, carpal tunnel, herniated discs, tendonitis and more. Participating in physical therapy and exercise three to four times per week will help reduce your chronic pain by reinforcing joint stability, muscle strengthening, endurance, and muscle and joint flexibility. Establishing an exercise routine and therapeutic exercise schedule in your week will help you manage chronic pain, move and function better, as well as help the body to heal itself.
One goal of physical therapy is that it helps patients to become stronger, since they are weakened from not exercising much due to their pain. It can also help individuals to move in ways they are not used to doing for some time and regain a level of movement and comfort they were previously missing.
Our top trained board certified physical therapists will examine, evaluate, and diagnose any condition or ailment that may be troubling you, and then develop an individualized treatment plan for you. Utilizing the modalities of exercise, mobilization, manual manipulation, heat, cold, and electrical stimulation, physical therapists work to restore function, improve mobility, and decrease pain with the goal of reestablishing the patient’s prior functional level.
